Hungary Cycling Guides
I knew I was in a different country right at the border between Hungary and Slovakia; things were so different here. While there are sections of bicycle paths in the countryside, you are also often on quiet local roads, some paved and some not. The people did not speak English, but if I pulled out a map, they crowded around pointing in the direction.
I saw many historic churches, fortresses, and museums before reaching Budapest, which does have some bike lanes. While I only did the Danube route, friends from my cycling club 2024 will do a route which includes Lake Balaton and the UNESCO World Heritage Site at Lake Neusiedl, and I will report back on their experiences.
